5 Famous Scots!

There have been so many world famous people who have come from Scotland. We have put together of 5 of the most famous Scots, maybe you have heard of them and maybe you haven't it is always a great time to learn something new.

Sean Connery

One of the most famous actors of all time is Sir Thomas Sean Connery. For those who aren't sure if they know the name, he is most well known for playing James Bond in the movies from 1962 to 1983. Sean Connery was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1930. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Untouchables. Sean was also names the Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine in 1989 and in 1999; he was named Sexiest Man of the Century.

Sheena Easton

Sheena Easton was born in 1959 in Bellshill, Scotland. Sheena is best known for her singing career that exploded in the 1980's. Sheena decided to start her own singing career after she saw an American movie The Way We Were, with the talented American singer Barbra Streisand. Sheena Easton had some great songs such as 9 to 5, Morning Train, Modern Girl and the very popular James Bond song For Your Eyes Only. Sheena is a two-time Grammy Award winner, the first was in 1981 for Best New Artist and the second was for Best Mexican/American Performance.

Jack M Ducker

Jack Ducker was a famous Scottish painter who specialized in painting the most beautiful Highland landscapes. It is believed that the majority of his work was done in 1910 to 1930 although his paintings rarely ever had dates on them. There is very little that is known about the painters personal life but his work has been auctioned off in famous auction houses such as Bonham and Christie's. One good way of knowing if you have a Jack M Ducker painting is to check the signature, he was known to sign his name as JMDucker or JDucker.

The Proclaimers

You may not know them by name but the song you will remember, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) from the American movie Benny and Joon, starring Johnny Depp. The brothers Charlie and Craig Reed were born in Leith, Scotland in 1962. The Reed Brothers grew up in Edinburgh, Cornwall and Auchtermuchty. They began their singing career in high school until they formed the group The Proclaimers in 1983. Their career really took off when fans in Inverness sent a copy of the brother's demo to a well known British band, The Housemartins, they were very impressed and so much so they were invited to tour with them in 1986.

Alexander Graham Bell

One of the most famous inventors of all time happens to be from Edinburgh Scotland. Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 and dies in 1922 in Beinn Bhreagh, Nova Scotia. Mr. Bell studied at the university of Edinburgh and the University of College London. Bell was given the very first patent for the first telephone in 1876, ironically, as the inventor of the telephone, he never had one. Graham Bell did amazing work in optical telecommunications, hydrofoils and aeronautics. He was the founder member of the National Geographic Society.
